Getting Photos of Street Styles

Street style photography is a great way to keep up with the latest fashion trends, and if you know where to look, you can see what famous people are wearing. The trick is to find a location that will yield interesting photos. The trickier part is that street style is not usually a one-day event—the models often return to the same spot, which makes it tricky to find a good street style session.

Navigating The Street Style

Street photography is a craft, and like any other, it needs to be studied. And, like any other craft, it requires the proper tools. Some tools for street photography are the camera, lens, and some skills, but there are also some more specific tools you can use to help you get to your destination quicker and improve your skills.

Street Style, to many, is a sub-genre of fashion photography that involves taking pictures of people in public and “street” settings. They are typically candid shots from the photographer’s view, and that’s where the name comes from. This type of photography is especially prevalent in big cities, where you can find a lot of styles and fashion influences, as well as a wide range of situations. You will find the same thing in a different city, but the settings may be different, and the styles will also be different. This is why there is a lot of variety in street-style photography.

The Basic Rules of Street Photography

In today’s world, there is a constant need for visual communication. Images can tell us what is happening in our lives or the lives of others. Street photography is one of the most popular genres, and it is easy for any photographer to get inspired. Street photography is not limited to one style, but there are some basic rules that can be followed when picking the best subject. These are:

• Street photography is a popular form of photography, which involves getting images of a subject in a public place. It is NOT about getting a photo of someone who is in their own home.

• Rule of thirds. Among the most deceptively simple but most effective techniques that street photographers use to capture interesting images is the Rule of Thirds. Based on the geometrical axiom, this guideline that any point in space divides into two halves by a third is a very simple way to divide a scene into horizontal and vertical thirds. The goal is to place your points of interest within these divided areas, so you can utilize a ruler to draw a grid onto your frame.

• Get physical with your perspective. Street photography is all about understanding how to see the world through the eyes of an observer. This means that as street photographers, we need to learn how to see and capture the world around us.

• Leading Lines. One rule when it comes to photography, in general, is to always lead the character in the picture. This is done by leading the subject into the photo. The easiest way to do this is using a wide aperture (low F-stop number), such as f/2.8, f/4.0, f/5.6, or f/8.0. It is also worth looking at the contrast of the image, the more contrast between the subject and the background, the easier it is to lead the subject.

• Zone Focusing, or hyperfocal distance. This is one of the most basic rules of “street” photography. In practical terms, it’s a means of using your camera’s lens to achieve the widest possible depth-of-field. In the process, it forces subjects to remain in the middle of the frame.

• Black and white color scheme. Many people don’t think of black and white as a color scheme, but it can work well to make a picture stand out. It can help bring out the bits of a picture in the shadow while also keeping the main subject well lit. Black and white also adds a classic look that feels more serious and elegant than colorful photographs.

Street style photography is a relatively new genre that incorporates more than just fashion in its shots. It is, for lack of a better description, the photography of the street. People are either just walking along or sitting down, but they are usually doing something. It is the sort of photography that has been seen on the pages of Vogue Italia, where the photographer gets to walk up to an attractive subject and capture images of them. Street style photography has been around for a while, but it is still relatively new.
